Monster.com's Nation-wide Keep America Working Career Fair Returns to Vienna, Virginia with Hundreds of Federal Hiring Opportunities Available

Representatives from Congressman Gerry Connolly’s office to provide updates on local benefits and information to help job search efforts

More than 40,000 jobs have been available at 64 total tour stops to date

MAYNARD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sep. 10, 2009-- Representatives from Congressman Gerry Connolly’s office (VA-11) will be collaborating with Monster.com, the leading global online career and recruitment resource and flagship brand of Monster Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE:MWW), as the company’s national Keep America Working career fair tour travels to Vienna, Virginia today. Representatives from Congressman Connolly’s office will be on hand, along with Monster.com experts, to discuss the thousands of federal hiring opportunities following the recent Where the Jobs Are 2009 report from the Partnership for Public Service.

Representatives from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation are expected on site at the Keep America Working Career Fair in Vienna, along with 28 additional private hiring companies. Other topics being addressed include local unemployment benefits and services, and career advice to help connect job seekers with both public and private employers in this tough market.

“The timing of the Vienna Keep America Working Tour event is fortuitous as it follows recent news that the federal government will be hiring nearly 273,000 new workers for mission-critical jobs over the next few years,” said Melissa Wojciak, vice president of government affairs, Monster. “Monster’s mission with the Keep America Working Tour goes beyond helping people find work by providing them with access to employers; we also give them the tips, advice and the confidence they need to succeed. Working with both the Partnership for Public Service and local Congressional support enables us to bring our combined knowledge to benefit the residents of Virginia.”

The survey, WHERE THE JOBS ARE 2009: Mission-Critical Opportunities for America, was conducted by the Partnership for Public Service with support from Aon and Monster Government Solutions and outlines government-wide projected hiring needs for the next three years, estimating that the federal government will hire nearly 273,000 new workers for mission-critical jobs by the fall of 2012 -- a 41 percent increase in comparison to the previous three fiscal years. New federal hires are expected to come in five broad professional fields: medical and public health, security and protection, compliance and enforcement, legal occupations, and administration and program management.

In a break with tradition for both Monster and other job fair organizers, Monster’s Keep America Working job fairs are free of charge to both job seekers and Monster employers with current job openings, to eliminate any cost barrier, and to encourage the greatest number of employers with available jobs to link face-to-face with people who need those jobs.

The Keep America Working Tour includes more than 100 stops across the nation throughout 2009. Since its kick-off in Boston at the end of February, the tour has featured 1,674 employers with more than 40,000 jobs to fill in 49 major markets. The 40,449 jobs represented at the fairs are backed up by tens of thousands of jobs listed on Monster.com in Virginia and these metropolitan areas.

Job seekers can also interact and connect with the Keep America Working (KAW) Tour on Facebook and Twitter. Both the Monster Twitter @MonsterKAW and Facebook pages, offer real-time updates from the floor of the event which provide seekers with insight into what jobs are available as well as what hiring managers are looking for in their candidates. In addition, the Facebook page has become a place for seekers to interact and connect with Monster’s KAW Tour, sharing updates on their own job qualifications, and helping to spread the buzz about employers/jobs on site at various event stops across the country. Monster’s Facebook and Twitter sites also equip job seekers with videos from career advice experts and hiring managers, for valuable tips on job hunting and interview preparation as they take on a challenging work environment.

The Keep America Working Tour brings together the tools and expertise job seekers need to not only find a job, but to also help manage their careers. Job seekers can learn from Monster’s Career Experts by attending live theater presentations for advice and techniques they need to stand out from the crowd and learn to better market themselves in today’s tough job market. On-site Kiosks feature Monster's new career exploration and management tools, including Career Snapshots, Career Benchmarking and Career Mapping.
