TMP Worldwide/Monster.com Acquires FlipDog.com
State-of-the-Art Technology Enhances Leadership Across TMP's Business Units, Positions Company for Further Growth
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 30, 2001--TMP Worldwide (NASDAQ: TMPW), the world's leading supplier of human capital solutions, including the pre-eminent Internet career portal Monster.com, announced that on May 25th, it acquired privately held FlipDog.com(TM) from WhizBang! Labs, Inc. FlipDog.com is a leading commercial career site with more than 600,000 jobs from more than 50,000 employers in more than 3,500 locations. The terms and conditions of the acquisition were not disclosed.
"FlipDog.com's technology advantage significantly enhances our suite of market-leading products and services and provides all of TMP with a powerful pipeline management tool," said Andrew J. McKelvey, chairman and CEO of TMP Worldwide. "The upside is incredible. FlipDog.com will serve to drive new business leads for Monster and across TMP's other businesses, while broadening and deepening the services we can provide to our clients."
FlipDog.com is powered by state-of-the-art information extraction technology that finds and extracts job-posting information from the websites of hiring organizations and provides links to them from FlipDog.com. Since its launch in April 2000, FlipDog.com has grown to its current position as the fifth most trafficked Internet site dedicated to online recruiting as measured by unique visitors, according to April 2001 Media Metrix statistics. Based in Provo, Utah, FlipDog.com was formerly a division of WhizBang! Labs, Inc. As part of this acquisition, WhizBang! Labs(TM) will provide TMP with additional information extraction services.
"FlipDog.com brings incredible technology and content to the TMP family of companies," said Mark Simonsen, president and CEO of FlipDog.com. "Customers worldwide stand to benefit tremendously from combining the strengths of FlipDog.com with Monster.com, the most powerful online recruiting force in the market today." TMP will continue to operate FlipDog.com as its own separate entity and website, serving as a data resource for TMP's other businesses, including Advertising & Communications, its recruitment advertising and creative services business unit.
"FlipDog.com's powerful technology will also be brought to bear upon our recently announced pending acquisition of Jobline to further drive our expansion in Europe," added McKelvey. "As the completion of the Jobline acquisition increases our brand dominance throughout Europe, FlipDog.com's information extraction technology will enhance our offerings and accelerate our business development growth." By acquiring Jobline, Monster.com would enter into five new markets in Europe: Denmark, Norway, Switzerland, Sweden and Finland, bolstering Monster's total number of European sites to 14 and international sites to 21. The Jobline acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions.
