News Release
WASHINGTON, DC and MAYNARD, Mass. – Monster.com, the leading global online network for careers, is taking an unprecedented step by donating a 30-second Super Bowl Television commercial to promote Groundhog Job Shadow Day, a nationwide effort to give young people an up-close look at careers. The ad, valued in the high six figures for the commercial's development and placement, is believed to be the first TV spot in the history of the Super Bowl to be donated by an advertiser in support of a good cause.
"With over 90 million viewers, the Super Bowl is one of the most watched television events in the world," says Jeff Taylor, CEO of Monster.com. "What better forum than this to promote a cause as important as Groundhog Job Shadow Day, an initiative that engages the community and provides a positive head start for young people."
Kicking off on February 2, 2000, Job Shadow Day is a year-long national effort to enrich the lives of students by acquainting them with the world of work through on-the-job experiences and a carefully crafted school curriculum that ties academics to the workplace. In addition to Monster.com's anchor sponsorship of this year's initiative, Job Shadow Day 2000 is a joint effort of America's Promise, The National School-to-Work Office, Junior Achievement and the American Society of Association Executives. Over one million young people are expected to participate in Job Shadow Day 2000.
Additionally, in conjunction with its sponsorship, Monster.com will host a Virtual Job Shadowing event on Monster.com (www.monster.com) and on the official Job Shadow Day website (www.jobshadow.org). Virtual Job Shadowing is a new initiative that will allow students nationwide to explore a variety of careers online. Beginning February 2nd, students will be able to see what takes place in the typical day of more than a dozen professionals, including a computer programmer, chef, engineer and CEO. During the course of the day, students will be able to ask their "virtual career mentors" questions such as "How much education do you need?" and "What kind of experience is required?" to do their jobs. Monster.com will continue to develop the number of professional profiles throughout the year.
Employers can also register on Monster.com for participation in Job Shadow Day 2001.
