Monster.com's Keep America Working® Tour Arrives in Northern Virginia
Event Designed to Help Local Job Seekers and Employers Make Meaningful Career Networking Connections at a Time When Positive Movement in the Jobs Sector is Evident
Annandale, VA. – May 11, 2010 -- Encouraged by signs of hope for a recovery in the job market, Monster.com®, the leading job matching engine and flagship brand of Monster Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: MWW), continues the momentum of its Keep America Working® Tour with a stop in Northern Virginia. Now in its second year, the tour’s mission is to accelerate opportunity in communities across the country, by matching employers looking to hire with people who need jobs. The Keep America Working tour will span more than 30 career networking events across the United States in 2010.
Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) will serve as the honorary co-sponsor of the Northern Virginia tour stop, which will take place from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Ernst Center on the Northern Virginia Community College campus in Annandale. AXA Financial Advisors, Knowledge Learning Corporation, Maden Technologies, Nordstrom and the U.S. Secret Service are among the many companies expected onsite with hundreds of local jobs to fill at the Northern Virginia event.
Following on the heels of a successful 2009 tour that brought more than 55,000 total job openings to local events, the 2010 Keep America Working tour continues at a time when there are signs of upward movement in the jobs market. The Monster Employment Index in April shows the biggest leap year-over-year seen in 2010, and now more than ever, small business owners and hiring managers at large companies need to find candidates quickly and cost-effectively who best meet their hiring needs. Monster’s events, along with the resources and precision matching technology for both job seekers and employers on Monster.com, can accelerate matches and get people back to work faster.
“After a successful 2009 Keep America Working tour that brought out more than 2,100 employers, we continue to see encouraging news on the hiring front. With the support of Senator Warner, we believe we can help match job seekers with local employers to drive hiring in Northern Virginia,” said Sal Iannuzzi, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Monster Worldwide.
“While Virginia’s jobless rate is better than other states in the nation, too many Virginians still are looking for work,” Senator Warner said. “Monster.com’s ‘Keep America Working’ Tour Career Fair will provide those who are unemployed or underemployed with an opportunity to meet with employers from across Northern Virginia.”
Full-time opportunities in Northern Virginia include open positions in IT, Finance and Sales with an immediate need for computer systems analysts, software engineers, web developers, accountants, sales managers, customer service representatives, retail managers, executive secretaries and administrative assistants and more.
Using an innovative model that goes well beyond a traditional career fair, the Keep America Working Tour is a networking opportunity that brings together the tools, expertise and employer contacts job seekers need to find a job and advance their careers. Job seekers can also get practical advice from career experts and experience Monster’s career tools in action. These tools appeal to both passive as well as active job seekers. Networking has always been a vital tool for job seekers, and face-to-face networking remains a very powerful way to connect. Monster’s Keep America Working events help job seekers make tangible connections with other seekers and employers offline; expanding upon the established networks of Monster Communities online.
