Monster.com's Keep America Working Tour Returns to Towson, Maryland
MAYNARD, Mass., Apr 30, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) --Encouraged by signs of hope for a recovery in the job market, Monster.com(R), the leading job matching engine and flagship brand of Monster Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: MWW), continues the momentum of its Keep America Working Tour with a stop in Towson, Md. Now in its second year, the tour's mission is to accelerate opportunity in communities across the country, by matching employers looking to hire with people who need jobs. The Keep America Working tour will span more than 45 career networking events across the United States in 2010, including a return visit to Towson.
Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger (D-MD) will serve as the honorary co-sponsor of the Towson tour stop, which will take place from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Sheraton Baltimore North Hotel. AXA Advisors, Staples, U.S. Cellular, MetLife and Bright Horizons Family Solutions are among the many companies expected onsite with hundreds of local jobs to fill at the Maryland event.
Following on the heels of a successful 2009 tour that brought more than 55,000 total jobs to local events, the 2010 Keep America Working tour continues at a time when there are signs of upward movement in the jobs market. The Monster Employment Index reported an annual rise of six percent in March, as employers continued to expand hiring efforts at the end of the first quarter. More than ever, small business owners and hiring managers at large companies need to find candidates quickly and cost-effectively who best meet their hiring needs. These events, along with the resources and precision matching technology for seekers and employers on Monster.com, can accelerate matches and get people back to work faster.
"After a successful 2009 Keep America Working tour that brought out more than 2,100 employers, we continue to see encouraging news on the hiring front. This year, we are happy to return to communities like Towson, Maryland. With the support of Congressman Ruppersberger, we believe we can help match job seekers with local employers to accelerate hiring in the area," said Sal Iannuzzi, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Monster Worldwide.
"The Maryland economy is showing signs of recovery. Employers hired close to 36,000 new workers last month, according to the Labor Department. This is the perfect time to hold a job fair in Maryland because businesses are now hiring new workers. Jobs provide the gasoline that runs our economy. When you have a job, you can support your family and your community. I am pleased to team up with Monster.com to bring the 'Keep America Working Job Fair' to Towson," said Congressman C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger (D-MD).
Full-time opportunities in Baltimore, MD include open positions in IT, Finance and Sales with an immediate need for computer systems analysts, software engineers, web developers, accountants, sales managers, customer service representatives, retail managers, executive secretaries and administrative assistants and more.
Using an innovative model that goes well beyond a traditional career fair, the Keep America Working Tour is a networking opportunity that brings together the tools, expertise and employer contacts job seekers need to find a job and further their careers. Job seekers can also get practical advice from career experts and see Monster's new career tools in action. These tools appeal to both passive as well as active job seekers. Networking has always been a vital tool for job seekers, and face-to-face networking remains a very powerful way to connect. Monster's Keep America Working events help job seekers make tangible connections with other seekers and employers offline; expanding upon the established networks of Monster Communities online.
Another unique aspect of the Keep American Working Tour is Monster's relationship with two non-profit organizations, Dress for Success and Career Gear. In this tough economy, these non-profits are experiencing budget-cuts that preclude them from hosting career fairs of their own. Clients of the local Baltimore chapter of CareerGear will attend a pre-career networking event workshop at today's Monster Towson event, designed to orient them to the Keep America Working event, and equip them with strategies to help make the most of their interactions with employers, ultimately demystifying the career fair experience. After the training, the clients are brought onto the floor just before the fair opens to the public.
