Monster.com Builds Web Site to Educate and Expose Tomorrow's Leaders to Olympic Ideals via the Internet
Maynard, MA – July 11, 2000 – Monster®.com, the leading global online careers site and flagship brand of TMP Worldwide (NASDAQ: "TMPW"; ASX: "TMP"), in collaboration with the United States Olympic Committee (USOC), today announced the launch of the F.L.A.M.E. (Finding Leaders Among Minorities Everywhere) Web site. Established by the USOC in 1994, F.L.A.M.E. is an annual outreach program that invites minority youths to take part in a four-day program designed to educate, encourage and promote leadership skills. Lending its Web design capabilities, creative content experts, and career tools and resources, Monster.com is a driving force in bringing this program to the Internet.
Monster.com is hosting the F.L.A.M.E. site (http://FLAME.monster.com) and providing the technology that supports the program's four-day comprehensive leadership event, July 12-16, at the USOTC in Colorado Springs, CO. The students accepted into the program learn about the Olympic ideals of commitment, vision, focus, discipline and commitment through interaction with U.S. Olympic athletes and hopefuls, motivational seminars, physical activity, athletic demonstrations, team building exercises, and personal and professional workshops.
“Monster.com is an advocate of helping people of all ages to realize their potential, and the F.L.A.M.E. program clearly resonates our beliefs,” said Jeff Taylor, CEO of Monster.com. “In reading testimonials from F.L.A.M.E. alumni, you realize how amazing this program is and we want to give every adolescent the opportunity to participate. The Internet makes the program more widespread and will help the USOC reach more minority youth across America.”
The F.L.A.M.E. site will extend the reach of the program by making content available online for participants to reference year-round. It also provides any interested minority youth access to information and program highlights. Personal profiles of the students, program alumni and U.S. Olympic Team athletes involved will be posted on the site. In addition, three seminars with Olympic medalists will be Webcast live for interested students who are unable to attend the event, immediately followed by online chats with the presenters, enabling the students to interact with the athletes. The Webcasts will be archived for six months after the program.
The Webcast schedule is:
July 12, 4:30-5:30 p.m. MST - Motivational Seminar with Paralympian Bonnie St. John Deane, Medalist, 1984 Paralympic Games.
July 13, 9:15-10:30 a.m. MST - Motivational Seminar with track and field athlete Billy Mills – Gold Medalist 1964 Games in the 10,000 meters.
July 15, 2:00-3:00 p.m. MST - Wrestling Demonstration with Matt Ghaffari, Silver Medalist 1996 Olympic Games and Kevin Jackson, Gold Medalist 1992 Olympic Games
Monster.com representatives will also present an educational seminar about using the Internet and the F.L.A.M.E. site to aid the students' professional growth. The F.L.A.M.E. site provides a number of Monster.com tools and resources such as Job Searching, tips for interviews and telephone communication, a Virtual Interview, and “My Flame,” a section where students can create their own personalized career management account.
