Monster.com Scales Site with Extensive Technology Ramp-up for Super Bowl XXXIV and Beyond

MAYNARD, Mass. --Jan. 25, 2000--Monster.com, the leading global online careers site and flagship brand of the Interactive Division of TMP Worldwide (NASDAQ:TMPW; ASX:TMP), today announced a ramp-up of its site in preparation for substantial traffic surges expected to follow five 30-second advertisements airing throughout Super Bowl XXXIV and its pregame show. Following the debut of Monster.com's "When I Grow Up" campaign during last year's Super Bowl, Monster.com earned the distinction of being the only dot.com advertiser who did not experience a site crash following the influx of traffic.

"With more than 100 million people expected to view our commercial during the Super Bowl, we understand the need to ramp up the network in anticipation of resulting traffic spikes," said Brian Farrey, chief technology officer, Monster.com. "Monster.com's Web site is our livelihood. We're committed to scaling the site as needed to provide a fast and reliable experience for our visitors with zero downtime."

Traffic to Monster.com has increased over 100 percent from 4.7 million unique visits per month prior to last year's Super Bowl to its current 9 plus million unique visits per month. Immediately following the Super Bowl last year, site traffic spiked from an average of 800 job searches per minute to 2,900 searches per minute. This spike then leveled to 1,500 searches per minute the week after the start of the ad campaign.

To address this dramatic increase in site traffic, Monster.com more than quadrupled its Dell PowerEdge servers from approximately 30 during last year's Super Bowl to over 127 today, bolstering its already fast and reliable network. Twenty-five new servers will support job seekers; another fifteen will directly handle employers visiting the site.

Monster.com is also adding more of HydraWEB's high-end Hydra5000 load balancers, as well as a substantial increase in Internet bandwidth from multiple providers. These network configurations, along with the use of Akamai Technologies' FreeFlow Internet content delivery service, is expected to handle up to 15 million concurrent connections.
