Monster.Com Chalks Up Super Bowl Ad As A Victory
Monster.com Sustains Record-breaking Traffic Before, During and After the Game; More Than 2.2 Million Job Searches Conducted in 24 Hours
MAYNARD, Mass. - February 2, 1999 - Visitor traffic to Monster.com soared to record-breaking heights when the leading career site debuted a new advertising campaign during Sunday's Super Bowl. In addition, activity on Monster.com remained at an all-time high on Monday, February 1, the day following the game.
Monster.com was launched in mid-January as a result of the merger of the number-one and number-four-rated online recruitment sites The Monster Board. and Online Career Center, both owned by TMP Worldwide (NASDAQ: "TMPW"; ASX: "TMP").
Monster.com today reported that in a 24-hour period beginning Sunday during the game and ending on Monday, February 1, more than 2.2 million job searches were conducted on the site. When compared to the 500,000 job searches Monster.com processed during a 24-hour period two weeks prior to the Super Bowl, this represents a nearly 450 percent increase.
"Online job seeking is one of the hottest applications on the Internet, and we decided to leverage America's most popular sporting event to spread the word about Monster.com," said Jeff Taylor, chief executive officer of Monster.com. "Clearly, our message that 'there's a better job out there' rang true with a large number of Super Bowl viewers, and we saw the payoff - a dramatic increase in job searches and resume submissions - begin instantly."
Visitors to Monster.com experienced fast and uninterrupted service thanks to the additional servers that the company installed before the ads aired on Super Bowl Sunday. "Our thorough preparation for the projected high volumes of traffic enabled us to provide seamless service to the potentially millions of first-time visitors to Monster.com," said Bill Warren, president of Monster.com.
