Monster Worldwide Teams with Mississippi Governor's Office on Katrina Recovery Job Fair Event; Up to 2,000 Job Seekers and 60 Employers to Gather at Free Event in Picayune, Mississippi on Friday, October 28th
Monster Worldwide, Inc. (NASDAQ: MNST), parent company of the leading global online career and recruitment resource, Monster(R), today announced that it has expanded its hurricane relief efforts by joining forces with the Governor's Job Fair Network of Mississippi and staffing solutions provider, Kelly Services to hold a Katrina Recovery Job Fair event at the end of the week in Picayune, Mississippi. All the employment opportunities are also available on Monster's free hurricane relief site at http://hurricanerelief.monster.com. With up to 2,000 job seekers and 60 employers expected, Mississippi's first state-sponsored job fair since Hurricane Katrina will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 28, at the Resurrection Life Church at 795 Memorial Avenue.
"We are honored to have joined forces with the Mississippi Governor's office and Kelly Services in a concerted effort to help the people of Mississippi impacted by Hurricane Katrina find employment and begin the process of rebuilding their lives" said Andrew J. McKelvey, Chairman and CEO of Monster Worldwide. "With nearly 60 employers offering an array of job openings, we hope this event will help provide the people of Picayune, and the surrounding communities of Mississippi, with the employment resources, assistance and support they need to get back on their feet as soon as possible."
Offering a diverse range of employment opportunities - from banking, administration, computer and engineering jobs to food service, maintenance, truck driving and nursing positions - the Katrina Recovery Job Fair in Picayune is the first in a series of state-wide job fair events being planned across Mississippi. Representatives from up to 60 employers will be on hand to talk with job seekers about a range of available jobs, while volunteers from Monster and Kelly Services will provide attendees with job search guidance as well as free Internet access via wireless laptops. More information about the event and the companies participating can be found at www.jobfairs.ms.gov.
"Quite simply, we created this job fair event with the assistance of Monster and Kelly Services to help Hurricane Katrina survivors in Mississippi find and secure jobs," said Joe Buckner, director of the Mississippi Governor's Job Fair Network. "We welcome anyone looking for a job to come to the event and judging from our conversations with the great roster of over 50 participating employers and growing, the job opportunities are indeed out there."
In addition to providing ongoing assistance with local job fairs in the Gulf Coast region, Monster launched its customized Hurricane Katrina relief Web site in mid-September (http://hurricanerelief.monster.com). Offering free job postings to all private and public sector employers, the site is designed to help survivors, volunteers, public and private sector employers, and volunteer organizations come together to post and find jobs, volunteer time, and provide help to communities in need. In addition to job postings, the site offers articles, tips and tools as well as a fully interactive message board where job seekers can interact and help each other during the difficult road to recovery.
The hurricanerelief.monster.com site includes re-employment opportunities specifically for Katrina survivors and/or positions to help rebuild devastated areas and provides free job postings. Currently, the site features thousands of job opportunities, many of which include relocation assistance, temporary housing and transportation. Employers and organizations can call 1-800-MONSTER 24 hours a day, seven days a week to post appropriate jobs. Job opportunities will be categorized for Hurricane survivors and people interested in helping with the recovery efforts. Currently, applications and resumes can be easily submitted via the traditional Apply Online feature at Monster. Efforts are underway to offer a simplified process on this special site.
