Monster Worldwide Expands Disaster Recovery Efforts Both Online and in Disaster-Affected Areas
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 16, 2006--Monster Worldwide, Inc. (NASDAQ: MNST):
-- Monster Provides Free Disaster Relief Job Postings to U.S. Government's Dedicated Relief Web Site on America's Job Bank To Centralize Jobs for Survivors -- Monster Produces Special Report: Gulf Coast Monster Employment Index Report to Benefit Government Officials in Mississippi and LouisianaMonster Worldwide, Inc. (NASDAQ: MNST), parent company of the leading global online career and recruitment resource, Monster(R), today announced plans to expand its multi-tiered efforts to provide employment relief and other assistance to the victims of last year's devastating hurricanes through a furthered sponsorship of local job fairs, and a collaborative online effort with U.S. Department of Labor's America's Job Bank to centralize disaster-related job postings.
To further help Gulf Coast hurricane victims find job opportunities in one central location, Monster is continually sending all of its free online job postings from its disaster relief Web site to the U.S. Department of Labor's dedicated Hurricane Recovery Job Connection section on America's Job Bank (AJB) (http://www.jobsearch.org/hurricanejobs). Monster launched its customized Hurricane Katrina relief Web site in September 2005 (http://hurricanerelief.monster.com).
With nearly 5,000 jobs posted, Monster's disaster relief site offers free job postings to all private and public sector employers. The site is designed to help survivors, volunteers, public and private sector employers, and volunteer organizations come together to post and find jobs, volunteer time, and provide help to communities in need. The alliance will enable job seekers to access the combined Hurricane job postings through both Monster's disaster relief site and AJB's site to post a resume or apply for work.
"Monster Worldwide continues to actively help the people impacted by Hurricane Katrina and other Gulf Coast disasters find employment and begin the process of rebuilding their lives," said Andrew J. McKelvey, Chairman and CEO of Monster Worldwide. "To expand our ongoing support and cooperation with federal, state and local relief efforts, we are sponsoring a series of local job fairs in the region, and sending all of the free online job listings we have amassed to date to the Department of Labor's hurricane recovery job site. This will provide all of the job seekers who have been impacted with easier, one-stop access to employment opportunities."
Expanded Sponsorship of Job Fairs
In the coming months as communities begin to rebuild, employment expansion plans will be developed further. Monster has also expanded its assistance by reaching out at the community level to help states speed the re-employment of survivors through local job fairs and drive increased local volunteerism.
Monster has participated in highly successful state-run job fairs in Mississippi, with more events planned. In late October, Monster's Disaster Relief team traveled to Picayune, Mississippi to participate in one of the first on the ground efforts with the Mississippi Governor's Job Fair Network. More than 3,000 job seekers and 60 employers attended the event, and close to 500 on-site interviews were conducted. More than 1,000 resumes were submitted and 250 attendees received job offers that day. In all, organizers anticipate that more than 500 people were hired as a result of the Picayune job fair. In 2005, Mississippi hosted 17 job fairs, serving 927 employers and more than 20,000 job seekers.
Additional Monster-sponsored Mississippi State job fairs are currently scheduled to take place in Jackson, Clarksdale and Mayhew in March and April 2006. The annual Mississippi Employment Expo in Clarkson on March 21st is expected to attract more than 120 employers and over 4,000 job candidates.
"The State of Mississippi is deeply grateful for the outpouring of resources to help us recover and rebuild after Hurricane Katrina. Monster.com has been an important part of that effort by helping put Mississippians back to work," said Governor Haley Barbour of Mississippi.
Benchmarking the Rebuild: Special edition of the Monster Employment Index
To provide Louisiana and Mississippi State government officials with a deeper understanding of employer job demand in their respective states, Monster researchers developed a special edition of the Monster Employment Index. Providing historical and real-time data on online hiring activity across Monster and 1500 other recruitment Web sites, the report was created to help state government officials benchmark the employment picture in the impacted areas in order to better understand local training and recruitment needs and better pinpoint the industries and occupations offering the greatest number of employment opportunities. A free copy of the report can be accessed at http://media.monster.com/ftpmonsom/emails/relief/pdf/mei-analysis.pdf.
With the entire Gulf Coast region continuing to focus efforts on helping survivors cope and supporting them during the rebuilding process, Monster continues to reach out at the state level to offer Louisiana and Mississippi ongoing assistance with their employment recovery plans. Company representatives have attended planning meetings with representatives from Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco's office, Louisiana Economic Development and the Louisiana Recovery Authority and recently supported the Gulf Coast Business Reinvestment Forum held in Washington, D.C.
Monster's disaster relief site features thousands of job opportunities many of which include relocation assistance, temporary housing and transportation, these jobs will now be also listed on America's Job Bank's Hurricane relief site. Employers and organizations wishing to participate on Monster's disaster relief site can call 1-800-MONSTER 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week to post appropriate jobs. Job opportunities will be categorized for Hurricane survivors and people interested in helping with the recovery efforts. Currently, resumes can be easily submitted via the traditional Apply Online feature at Monster.
