More Than 185,000 Nationwide Job Seeker Members Willing to Relocate to Minneapolis
MAYNARD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 17, 2003-- While Minneapolis/St. Paul has a lower unemployment rate than the nation as a whole (4.4 percent in July, compared to 6.1 percent nationwide in August, according to the Department of Labor), more than 81,000 workers remain unemployed. The current employment situation has created increased concern and anxiety among job seekers and employers who are still cutting jobs and postponing hiring. However, according to data released today by Monster(R), the leading global online careers property and flagship brand of Monster Worldwide, Inc. Where are the jobs?
Based on a comprehensive analysis of Minneapolis-based job postings on Monster, Sales opportunities are most abundant, with an increase of more than 16 percent from July to August 2003. Other categories showing large increases from July to August include Customer Service and Call Center (up 22 percent), Engineering (up 20 percent), and Administrative and Support Services (up 18 percent).

When are job seekers searching?
Job seekers in Minneapolis conducted more than 1.1 million job searches in August 2003. An average of 58,864 searches were conducted on Tuesdays - the most of any day during the week - followed closely by Mondays, which recorded an average 54,440 searches during the month.
