The Monster Meter Says: Respondents Don't Feel Job Security Exists; Even with the Slowing Economy, Monster Users Not Willing to Give Up Benefits for Job Security
MAYNARD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 26, 2001--There is no hotter topic in the business world today than the current state of the economy. Even with the slowing economy, 64 percent of Monster.com users will not give up benefits for "guaranteed" job security, according to the recent Monster Meter, Monster.com's ongoing series of online polls that gauge users' opinions on a variety of topics relating to careers, the economy, and the workplace. Monster.com is the leading global online careers site and flagship brand of TMP Worldwide Inc. (NASDAQ: TMPW).
The Monster Meter asked "Which of these would you be most willing to accept if your next employer could guarantee no layoffs for two years? A total of 16,816 votes were cast - revealing:
-
64% (10,767 votes) said "None of the above; there are no guarantees"
-
27% (4621 votes) said "No stock options"
-
5% (827 votes) said "10% Less pay"
-
3% (601 votes) said "Fewer benefits"
"These results show how savvy today's typical worker has become," said Peter Vogt, president of Minneapolis-based Career Planning Resources and Monster.com's campus community expert. "Most of the people polled obviously understand the broader issue here -- that no employer can truly guarantee a job, or anything else for that matter, in today's world of work. So the smart strategy is to assume that 'job security' is a hazy concept at best, and to manage your career with that in mind, using all of the tools and information you can get your hands on."
