The Monster Meter Says: Americans Willing to Relocate for a Better Job

MAYNARD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 4, 2001--According to the latest Monster Meter, 83 percent of Americans would be willing to relocate for a better job, if the price was right, or if it was for a dream job. At the other end of the spectrum, only 17 percent said they would not relocate. The Monster Meter is an ongoing series of online polls that gauge users' opinions on a variety of topics relating to careers, the economy, and the workplace. Monster.com(R) is the leading global online careers site and flagship brand of TMP Worldwide Inc. (NASDAQ: TMPW).

The Monster Meter asked "Would you be willing to relocate for a better job?" A total of 13,199 votes were cast - revealing:

  • 62% (8235 votes) said: "Yes, if the price was right."

  • 21% (2774 votes) said: "Yes, but only for a dream job."

  • 11% (1399 votes) said: "No, relocation is not an option."

  • 6% (791 votes) said: "No, there are plenty of good jobs around here."

"It is not surprising that 83% of respondents would relocate for a better job given the current state of the economy. Today's workforce is very mobile and now, more than ever, employees are recognizing relocation as an opportunity to find their ideal job," said Tom Zorn, President, Monstermoving.com. "The results of this poll are a perfect illustration of the important synergy between Monster.com and Monstermoving.com. As more job seekers turn to Monster.com to help them find their dream job, they can rely on the services of Monstermoving.com to help them with their job-related relocation needs."

To meet the needs of this increasingly mobile demographic, Monstermoving.com was launched in October 2000 as an extension of Monster.com. The combined offering provides job seekers with a one-stop shopping destination for all of their career and relocation-related needs.

The results of the current Monster Meter are based on votes cast by Monster.com users from May 21, 2001 to May 24, 2001. Only one vote per user is counted toward the final tabulation.
