Monster celebrates the fall of the Berlin Wall 20 years ago

In the evening of November 9, Monster participated in a spectacular domino event in Berlin to mark the fall of the Berlin wall 20 years ago. The event was the highlight of the „Festival of Freedom“, which was celebrated in Berlin on both sides of the Brandenburg Gate from November 7, till November 9. In preparation of the so called "domino event" a total of one thousand huge domino stones were installed along the former route of the Berlin wall. The huge domino stones - Styrofoam blocks about two meters high – were designed by more than 5,000 children, artists and celebrities worldwide, and they were brought to fall down during the domino event symbolizing the fall of the Berlin Wall. Monster participated in the event by sponsoring a domino stone colored in "Monster purple".

With this sponsorship of the domino stone Monster’s underlined its social commitment. For millions of people the fall of the Berlin Wall stands for the abolition of a border and the chance of personal freedom both in life and in the job. Monster supports and inspires people to improve their lives and their careers, and was therefore an ideal sponsor for the domino event.

International representatives of culture, politics and society such as German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Nicolas Sarkozy as well as the British Prime Minster Gordon Brown and American Foreign Secretary Hillary Clinton joined the big domino event in Berlin and spoke to some 100.000 people who attended. Furthermore, Nobel Peace Prize laureates Kofi Annan and Muhammad Yunus as well as many contemporary witnesses participated. The event received huge media coverage across the globe and the leading national German TV station, ZDF, showed a live broadcast from 7:20 to 8:15 pm.

Monster will receive its domino stone in memory of the domino event and the fall of the Berlin wall 20 years ago and will showcase it in the German headquarters in Eschborn, near Frankfurt, to remember this important historical moment which deeply affected people worldwide and sustainably changed the position of Germany within the world.
