Career Gear Celebrates 10th Anniversary with Awards Dinner Honoring “Business Leaders & Fathers” in New York City
Monster® Chairman and CEO Sal Iannuzzi among Honorees, Recognized for Vision and Leadership for “Keep America Working” Initiative
MAYNARD, Mass. – June 18, 2009 – In celebration of its 10th anniversary, Career Gear (www.careergear.org), a non-profit organization focused on helping men get jobs and keep jobs, held an awards dinner last night at the Edison Ballroom in New York City, where it recognized business leaders for their support in promoting the gainful employment and self-sufficiency of disadvantaged men actively seeking employment. Honorees included Monster® Chairman and CEO, Sal Iannuzzi .
“Sal's decision to take a leadership role in connecting job seekers with the employers who are hiring in their local markets is a model of corporate responsibility,” said Gary Field, founder of Career Gear. “Further, Sal's move to make the ‘Keep America Working’ tour free of charge to employers is not only the right thing to do it’s also a solid strategic business decision to be applauded during these difficult times.”
Other honorees recognized at last night’s event included New York Rangers’ Sean Avery; Dress for Success CEO Joi Gordon; New York realtor Roger Silverstein; U.S. Congressman Gary Meeks; writer, producer and actor Larry Wilmore; and Career Gear founder Gary Field.
Monster has supported Career Gear since 2008, when the company funded the organization’s Professional Development Series workshops. Most recently, Mr. Iannuzzi supported the vision and provided executive support to integrate a non-profit component into the Keeping America Working (KAW) tour, which has now expanded into Europe. Career Gear, along with Dress for Success (www.dressforsuccess.org), is one of two national nonprofits to have its clients included in KAW pre-fair training that helps demystify the career fair experience, while providing tips and tools to approach and speak with employers.
To date Monster has trained more than 230 Career Gear clients at KAW fairs in Boston, New York, Houston, Dallas, Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, resulting in multiple interviews with employers and two men finding new jobs.
