Canadian Companies In A Frantic Race...For Expertise

NEW YORK, NY., February 20, 1998 -- As you read this, a large number of Canadian companies and organizations are facing a dramatic shortage in the area of information technology. They are asking themselves how to fill 30,000 positions in a sector experiencing a serious shortage of qualified labour, and how to deal with the fact that the situation only seems to be getting worse.

TMP Worldwide, the largest Canadian agency specialized in recruitment communications, has made the challenge faced by these companies its own and has many integrated and innovative recruitment strategies, along with printed material and interactive strategies, to propose.

That's why TMP Worldwide, in association with The Globe and Mail, will, for the first time, present a special supplement on a national scale entitled Canada's Race for Expertise - Information Technology, this February 21. This special report, of which 400,000 copies will be distributed, will draw a realistic and factual picture of the Canadian Information Technology job market. More importantly, it will offer a unique opportunity for companies to promote themselves as employers of choice.

In addition, employers who participate in these initiatives, for instance, IBM Canada, The Public Service Commission of Canada and CGI, can also benefit fully from the advantages offered by the Internet and post jobs as part of an original interactive recruitment event on the job site, The Monster Board Canada.

There will be an advertising campaign exclusively designed to inform Information Specialists of the special publication, Canada's Race for Expertise - Information Technology. The campaign will include advertising in "Managing", "Report on Business", "Olympic Sports" and "Computer Careers" sections of The Globe and Mail. Also on February 21, 7000 posters will be placed on The Globe and Mail's distribution boxes throughout Canada. Banner ads will appear on Internet sites Career Connect, Globenet and The Monster Board Canada to complement this promotional advertising offensive.

Canada's Race for Expertise - Information Technology, is the first in a series of five special reports to help Canadian companies fill their recruitment needs in the areas with labour shortages. Over the next few months, you can read about the following subjects in the upcoming special supplements: on-campus recruitment, high technology and engineering, the finance and insurance sectors and, the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry.

Through these integrated recruitment strategies, Canadian companies are getting closer to... The finish line!
